The Lab (Saliva Testing)

Saliva hormone testing enables you to measure your levels of various hormones including estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. Comparing your hormone levels to the normal range for your age will help you and your healthcare provider in evaluating how hormone replacement therapy will or has influenced your hormone levels.

To assist the consultant pharmacist in assessing the patient, laboratory data is helpful to indicate the baseline levels of the evaluation. By having this information the consultant pharmacist can better assess the patient's status. Highly accurate laboratory assessment of specific hormone levels can be measured in saliva. The saliva is collected by the patient and sent to Aeron. Aeron then processes the saliva samples and submits the results of the testing to the patient and also to Bellevue Pharmacy in order for the consultant pharmacist to complete the assessment and make a recommendation for hormone therapy. If requested, Aeron will also provide a copy of test results to the patient's healthcare provider.

It is highly recommended to get a saliva test, for a base line level to start with; repeating the test in 2 to 3 months. This way you will be able to evaluate if Hormone Therapy has affected your levels. It is then recommended to repeat the test once a year thereafter. In females, we suggest that you test for Estriol, Estradiol, Estrone, Progesterone, Testosterone, Cortisol, DHEA, Melatonin, DHT and Pyrilinks D (urine test) for bones. In males test for testosterone, DHT, estradiol, DHEA, cortisol and in some cases progesterone.
