Hormone Questions

Feel free to use the Ask The Pharmacist Form if your question is not answered below.

(Q) What are natural hormones?

Natural hormones have the same chemical structures as the hormones secreted by the ovaries, adrenal glands, or testes. Therefore they are bio-identical to what your body produces.

(Q) Where do natural hormones come from?

Some natural hormones come from the yam plant, soybean plant, or Barbasco plant (giant yam).

(Q) How do the natural products you compound differ from the over the counter natural products?

The quality of over the counter products is usually low in order to obtain lower pricing. Bellevue Pharmacy only provides high quality natural hormones. Also the over the counter product packaging does not allow for the patient to know exactly what dose they are applying. Our products are dispensed with an applicator that allows you to measure the application of our product.

(Q) What is the best route of administration, eg. sublingual tablet, gel, capsule, cream, pellet, tablet or patch?

Everyone is different. So what is best for one, may not be best for another. Sometimes you need to try 2 or 3 different delivery systems until you find what works best for you.

(Q) When is the best time of day to take my hormones?

Ideally the best way is to take one half of the daily dose every 12 hours for oral, sublingual and topical doses. However a testosterone sublingual tablet for libido may be best taken 2 hours before bedtime. Estrogen for night sweats may be best taken with your evening meal. DHEA may be best taken after breakfast. Progesterone may be best taken at bedtime.

(Q) How long before I am contacted once submitting my patient history form?

Usually within 2 to 3 business days, dependent upon the availability to reach you.

(Q) How long before I receive the saliva hormone test results?

The results take approximately 10 to 12 days from the day you mail the samples to Aeron Lab. Results will be sent to Bellevue Pharmacy, and to the patient.

(Q) Will you accept a recent hormone blood test, urine test, or saliva test from another lab for an evaluation during the patient consultation?

Yes, this is generally acceptable if the results were within the last 6 months.

(Q) Do I have to use your consulting service to obtain a saliva hormone test kit?

No, we can provide you with the saliva hormone test kit without using our consultation service. You or your healthcare provider will need to intrepret the results of the salvia test.

(Q) How long before I can get started?

If you elect to start the prescription before the saliva results are received, then this could potentially be accomplished in 3 to 5 days depending on how quickly you can discuss our recommendations with your physician and where you live. Once we have made our evaluation and recommendation, your doctor will need to review it, and if in agreement with our recommendation, will write a prescription and phone, or fax it Bellevue Pharmacy. We will compound your prescription and ship it to you. The dose can then be adjusted if necessary once the saliva test results are received.

(Q) Can I use my own physician in conjunction with your service?

Yes, you can submit the patient history form, obtain the saliva hormone test kit and the results of tests can be forwarded to your own physician. We will then provide you with a suggested dosing dependent on your test results and the patient history form. You can review this information with your own physician. If your physician feels our suggestion is warranted, he or she can then phone, fax or mail the prescription to Bellevue Pharmacy and the prescription will then be dispensed.

(Q) Once I review your suggestion with my physician can you supply my physician with materials that will support your products and suggestions?

Yes, we have available to you or your physician information to support our products and suggestions. This can be emailed or mailed to you or your physician.

(Q) How do I setup a consultation with one of your pharmacists?

Please contact us at 1-800-728-0288 or 314-727-8787 and ask to set up a consultation time with one of our pharmacists. We will review your medical history, symptoms, current/past medications, and lab results of your hormones if available. From this information we will develop a recommendation for you to discuss with your physician. If in agreement, your physician will provide Bellevue Pharmacy with a prescription.

On average the consultation lasts 15 -30 minutes. The fee for the consult is $25 for the first 15 minutes and then $2 per minute thereafter. We refund the entire fee back to you when you fill your prescriptions with us at Bellevue Pharmacy.
